Oh boyy.
You’ve been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Or Fibromyalgia. Or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. And probably a million little syndromes to go with it.
So great, you got your diagnosis (finally) but now what? They didn’t exactly hand you a guidebook on how to live with these diseases, and how to cope with them, and you know, maybe still enjoy your life.
So, now what?
Here’s where this site comes in – I’ve been there. I was diagnosed with CFS and FMS when I was 12. That was 8 years ago. Since that time, I’ve been through almost everything this disease can put you through – at one point, I nearly killed myself. These diseases are horrible, and hard to cope with and none of the resources I found were very helpful – it was a lot of trite, cliched advice that wasn’t practical, or realistic. It was kind of a bunch of crap.
And from what I’ve seen, things haven’t changed much since.
So I decided to start this site, because I’ve been where you are right now, and some days, I’ll be honest, I still go back to that place. But the thing is, I love my life now. And I learned how to handle this disease, through lots of trial and error, and by blatantly ignoring all of the common advice.
And now I want to help others get here as well. It can seem like a long road, and at times it can be hard, and emotionally difficult. But the rewards along the way are totally worth it. Here I’ll be sharing all of my thoughts on coping and how I’ve learned to deal with it, and its where you can share your thoughts and feelings too.
Here, you will be understood.
So if you’re sick of pacing and being told to not get stressed out, this is the place for you.
If you’re tired of being told that you’ll have to “manage” all your symptoms for the rest of your life, but you just feel like you’ve been handed a death sentence, this place is for you.
If you’re tired of crappy advice, this place is for you.
If you’re sick of feeling like you’re going to spend the rest of your life pacing household chores, and are desperate for something more, something that resembles a real life, this place is for you.
If you’re sick of being misunderstood, and feel like you no place left to turn, this place is for you.
And if you’re between the ages of 16 and 25 with this disease, please hang out here. Because this place is really for you.
I’m here to help. Together, we will get through this. I don’t have all of the answers – I’m still on this journey as well. But I know a lot more answers than I used to, and I want to share those answers with all of you.
All the best,
Sarah Lacy
Fantastic Sarah, Its really cool to see that you have got this up and running – God speed to you, Kal
